About the Festival

QUEER Filmfest Weiterstadt takes place annually at the municipal movie theater of the city of Weiterstadt (Kommunales Kino Weiterstadt). The theater is quite small (74 seats), but it offers best viewing quality with wide screen, latest digital technology and sound system.

29th Edition: End of October – Beginning of November 2025

Our aim is to give a platform to films that do not promote heteronormative ways as the only valid choice. While the number of films was rather limited at the beginning, LGBTQ* filmmaking has grown over the years, and from the many short and feature films produced world-wide each year, which deal with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender or queer topics, we provide an international selection which hopefully encourages the dialogue about acceptance and equal rights, points out injustices and discriminations, still existing in Germany and around the globe—but above all we love to celebrate great films with you!

Program

The QUEER Filmfest program will be published beginning of October 2025. A lot of films are in original language with German subtitles and until now, there has always been a little choice of English language films.

During non-festival times, the regular program of the „Kommunales Kino Weiterstadt“ sometimes offers queer films. It is always worth checking the program under:

Getting There

From Darmstadt, several bus lines run from Luisenplatz or Hauptbahnhof. The bus stop in Weiterstadt is called „Wilhelm Leuschner Platz“. If you walk a little bit up against arriving direction and across the parking place of the city council, you see the 80s brick building  which hosts the movie theater in the basement.

If you do not like the bus, there is a train running from Darmstadt, Mainz or Wiesbaden, which stops at Weiterstadt. Walking from the train station to the movie theater takes about 10 minutes.
